PROFILE

The key to a country's economic and industrial success lies with its highly trained managers in both the public as well as the private sector. To meet the demand of trained management graduates in the light of ongoing Globalization Privatisation, Institute of Business Management was founded in the year 1991. The Institute has been conducting Two-Year Full-Time Post-Graduate Programme of Master of Business Administration (MBA) since 1991. Since July, 1996 the Institute has also been conducting Three-year Part Time MBA Programme for working executives. Our faculty is offering specialisation for MBA students in the fields of Marketing, Finance and Human Resources in tandem with the growing demand in the business ogranisation for professionals with right aptitude and skills in these areas. From the session 1999-2000 B.B.A. Programme has also been started at the Institute to provide a strong foundation to budding managers and serve as a stepping stone for advanced MBA programme. The Institute of Business Management is situated in the green locales at the outskirts of Kanpur city in the pleasant campus of Chhatraipati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (Formerly Kanpur University).

The Faculty of Business Management is one of the most prestigious programmes in the university campus and it was established under the statutes of Kanpur University in 1985. The M.B.A. programme duly approved by A.I.C.T.E., Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi was started in 1991-92. Out of the U.G.C. grants, the IBM is housed in a new and impressive building in the campus. On the basis of the impressive academic performance of the Institute, the A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi has accorded approval for an increase in intake from 30 students to 60 students into the two year full-time M.B.A. Course and to start a three-year part time M.B.A. course with strength of 30 students. Our postgraduate research and training programmes are based upon a unique tradition of continuing innovation in the development and delivery of wide range of courses, policy, relevant research and strong links with industrial and business organisations. The specialisation of the Institute are offered in the areas of (i) Financial Management, (ii) Marketing Management and (iii) Human Resource Management. The Institute's aim is to groom future managers with a view to assume positions of significant managerial responsibility in various organisations. The Institute lays emphasis on the overall growth and development of a student. The curriculum for the course has been developed by management experts comprising of eminent academicians, professionals and practising managers.

The Institute has dedicated, young and highly qualified regular faculty members and is supported by frequently visiting guest faculty from institutes of repute and well established industries. The experienced faculty at IBM realizes that for a professional level only classroom lectures will not suffice. The students need to be experts in the major skills essential for a manager. The conceptual skills are imparted through intensive classroom lectures, case studies, seminars and conferences attended by visitors from industry and academics. The technical skills are learnt mainly through summer project assignments, industrial visits and research surveys. The inter-personal skills are practiced through group exercises, role plays and business games. As a result of this unique pedagogy mix, the students graduating form IBM are well equipped with all the essential skills and are ready to take on any challenge that comes their way.
